Windows Vista

If you are connecting to XFINITY WiFi for the first time, follow all the steps below to configure your computer to use your private home WiFi network at home and XFINITY WiFi when you are visiting a friend or traveling around town.

If you have previously connected to XFINITY WiFi, follow the steps below starting with Step 2 to ensure you are securely connected to your private home WiFi network at home (make sure you are in range of an XFINITY WiFi hotspot before getting started).

  1. Follow our Online Guide for Windows Vista to connect to the XFINITY WiFi network.
  2. Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the notification area of the taskbar on your computer desktop to display the list of available networks.
  3. To connect to your private home WiFi network, click on the network name of your private home WiFi network in the menu (usually this will be the network with the strongest signal, typically beginning with the word “HOME”), and click Connect to connect your computer to the private home WiFi network.
  4. Wait a few seconds while your computer connects. If you have never connected to your private home WiFi network on the XFINITY Wireless Gateway, you will need to enter the Network Key that is printed on the label affixed to the bottom of the Wireless Gateway. If you have changed the network key from the original setting, enter that key instead. You can find out more about connecting to your Wireless Gateway here.
  5. Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the notification area of the taskbar on your computer desktop to display the list of available networks, then click on Open Network and Sharing Center.
  6. Click on Manage Wireless Networks in the menu on the left hand side of the window that appears.
  7. Click on the private home WiFi network and then click on the Move up button until the private home WiFi network is at the top of the list of networks you can view, modify and reorder.
  8. Next, select the XFINITY WiFi network (called “xfinitywifi”) and click on the Move up button until the XFINITY WiFi network is 2nd highest in the list, just below your private home WiFi network.
  9. Close the window and you're done! Your computer will now connect to your private home WiFi network when you are at home and the XFINITY WiFi network when you are connecting away from home.

Windows 7

If you are connecting to XFINITY WiFi for the first time, follow all the steps below to configure your computer to use your private home WiFi network at home and XFINITY WiFi when you are visiting a friend or traveling around town.

If you have previously connected to XFINITY WiFi, follow the steps below starting with Step 2 to ensure you are securely connected to your private home WiFi network at home (make sure you are in range of an XFINITY WiFi hotspot before getting started).

  1. Follow our Online Guide for Windows 7 to connect to the XFINITY WiFi network.
  2. Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the notification area of the taskbar on your computer desktop to display the list of available networks.
  3. To connect to your private home WiFi network, click on the network name of your private home WiFi network in the menu (usually this will be the network with the strongest signal, typically beginning with the word “HOME”), and click Connect to connect your computer to the private home WiFi network.
  4. Wait a few seconds while your computer connects. If you have never connected to your private home WiFi network on the XFINITY Wireless Gateway, you will need to enter the Network Key that is printed on the label affixed to the bottom of the Wireless Gateway.   5. 5. Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the notification area of the taskbar on your computer desktop to display the list of available networks, then click on Open Network and Sharing Center at the bottom of the list.

  7. Click on the private home WiFi network and then click on the Move up button until the private home WiFi network is at the top of the list of networks you can view, modify and reorder.

Windows 8 / Windows 8.1

If you have previously connected to XFINITY WiFi or your private home WiFi network, follow all the steps below to configure your device to use your private home WiFi network at home and XFINITY WiFi when you are visiting a friend or traveling around town.

If you are setting up your device for the first time, follow all the steps below starting at Step 7 (make sure you are in range of your home WiFi network and an XFINITY WiFi hotspot before getting started).

Forget your private home WiFi network and the XFINITY WiFi network

  1. From the Windows 8 Start screen, select the Desktop icon.
  2. Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the notification area of the taskbar on your computer desktop to display the list of available networks.
  3. Find xfinitywifi from the list of networks and right click on it to bring up the options menu.
  4. Select Forget this network from the options that appear
  5. Find your private home WiFi network in the list of available networks (usually this will be the network with the strongest signal, typically beginning with the word “HOME”) and right click it to bring up the options menu.
  6. Select Forget this network from the options that appear.

    Reconnect to the XFINITY WiFi network then your private home WiFi network

  7. Find xfinitywifi from the list of available networks and then click on Connect. If you need more information on how to log in to the XFINITY WiFi network, follow our Online Guide for Windows 8 to connect.
  8. Once your device is connected to the XFINITY WiFi network, click on the name of your private home WiFi network in the list of available networks and click Connect.
  9. You will need to enter the Network Key that is printed on the label affixed to the bottom of the XFINITY Wireless Gateway. If you have changed the network key from the original setting, enter that key instead. You can find out more about connecting to your Wireless Gateway here.
  10. Wait a few seconds while your computer or device connects, and you're done! Your device should now connect to your private home WiFi network when you are at home and the XFINITY WiFi network when you are connecting away from home.

OS X®

If you are connecting to XFINITY WiFi for the first time, follow all the steps below to configure your computer to use your private home WiFi network at home and XFINITY WiFi when you are visiting a friend or traveling around town.

If you have previously connected to XFINITY WiFi, follow the steps below starting with Step 2 to ensure you are securely connected to your private home WiFi network at home (make sure you are in range of your home WiFi network before getting started).

  1. Follow our Online Guide for OS X® to connect to the XFINITY WiFi network.
  2. Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the notification and status bar at the top of your computer desktop.
  3. To connect to your private home WiFi network, click on the network name of your private home WiFi network in the menu (usually this will be the network with the strongest signal, typically beginning with the word “HOME”). If you have never connected to your private home network on the XFINITY Wireless Gateway, you will need to enter the Network Key that is printed on the label affixed to the bottom of the Wireless Gateway. If you have changed the network key from the original setting, enter that key instead. You can find out more about connecting to your Wireless Gateway here.
  4. Wait a few seconds while your computer connects. Once your computer is connected to your home private WiFi network, click on Open Network Preferences.
  5. Click on the Advanced button near the bottom right hand corner of the window.
  6. On the Wi-Fi tab, in the list of Preferred Networks, click and drag your private home WiFi network to the top of the list of preferred networks, then click OK.
  7. Next, click and drag the XFINITY WiFi network (called “xfinitywifi”) until it is 2nd highest on the list, just below your private home WiFi network.
  8. Close the window and you're done! Your computer will now connect to your private home WiFi network when you are at home and the XFINITY WiFi network when you are connecting away from home.

iOS (iPhone® or iPod touch®)

If you have previously connected to XFINITY WiFi and your private home WiFi network, the connection behavior will depend on the iPhone/iPod version of your device.

If your iPhone is on iOS6 or above (or if it is iPhone5), it will automatically connect to your private home WiFi network at home and XFINITY WiFi when you are visiting a friend or traveling around town.

If your device is an iPhone 4S (or older) and iPod, it will connect to the most recently connected network, if that network is available. If your device has not connected to your private home WiFi network by default, follow the steps below to connect to your private home WiFi network.

Reconnect to your private home WiFi network

  1. Find your private home WiFi network in the list of available networks and tap it to connect.
  2. You will need to enter the Network Key that is printed on the label affixed to the bottom of the XFINITY Wireless Gateway. If you have changed the network key from the original setting, enter that key instead. You can find out more about connecting to your Wireless Gateway here.
  3. Wait a few seconds while your device connects, and you’redone! Please note that these steps may need to be repeated if you want your iPhone/ iPod to connect to your private home WiFi network when you are at home.

BlackBerry®

If you are connecting to an XFINITY WiFi Home Hotspot for the first time, follow all the steps below to configure your BlackBerry to use your private home WiFi network at home and XFINITY WiFi when you are visiting a friend or traveling around town.

If you have previously connected to XFINITY WiFi, follow the steps below >starting with Step 2 to ensure you are securely connected to your private home WiFi network at home (make sure you are in range of your home WiFi network before getting started).

  1. Follow our Online Guide for BlackBerry to connect to the XFINITY WiFi network.
  2. From the BlackBerry home screen, select the Menu key.
  3. Use the trackball to scroll to the icon for Manage connections and click.
  4. Scroll down to the Wi-Fi Network option and click.
  5. Find your private home WiFi network in the list of available networks (usually this will be the network with the strongest signal, typically beginning with the word “HOME”) from the list of available networks and click to connect.
  6. You will need to enter the Network Key that is printed on the label affixed to the bottom of the XFINITY Wireless Gateway. If you have changed the network key from the original setting, enter that key instead. You can find out more about connecting to your Wireless Gateway here.
  7. Once your BlackBerry is connected to your private home WiFi network, scroll to Manage connections and click.
  8. Click Wi-Fi Network, then Saved Wi-Fi Networks
  9. Scroll to your private home WiFi network in the list of saved Wi-Fi networks, then press and hold this option to access the menu (or click the key).
  10. Select the Move option and move your private home WiFi network to the top of the list of saved Wi-Fi networks.
  11. Scroll to the xfinitywifi network in the list of saved Wi-Fi networks, then press and hold this option to access the menu (or click the key).
  12. Select the Move option and move the xfinitywifi network until it is the 2nd highest on the list, just below your private home WiFi network.
  13. Select Save to save the changes to your Wi-Fi settings. Your device should now connect to your private home WiFi network when you are at home and the XFINITY WiFi network when you are connecting away from home.

Windows Phone

If you have previously connected to XFINITY WiFi or your private home WiFi network, follow all the steps below to configure your device to use your private home WiFi network at home and XFINITY WiFi when you are visiting a friend or traveling around town.

If you are setting up your device for the first time, follow all the steps below starting at Step 7 (make sure you are in range of your home WiFi network before getting started).

Forget your private home WiFi network and the XFINITY WiFi network

  1. Tap on Start, flick left to the App list, and then tap on Settings to bring up the Settings menu.
  2. Tap on the Wi-Fi option in the Settings menu.
  3. Find xfinitywifi from the list of networks then tap and hold on the network name.
  4. In the menu that appears below the network name, tap on Delete to forget the network.
  5. Find your private home WiFi network in the list of available networks (usually this will be the network with the strongest signal, typically beginning with the word “HOME”) and tap and hold the network name.
  6. In the menu that appears below the network name, tap on Delete to forget the network.

    Reconnect to the XFINITY WiFi network then your private home WiFi network

  7. Find xfinitywifi from the list of available networks and tap it to connect. If you need more information on how to login to the XFINITY WiFi network, follow our Online Guide for Windows Phone to connect.
  8. Once your device is connected to the XFINITY WiFi network, tap on the name of your private home WiFi network in the list of available networks.
  9. You will need to enter the Network Key that is printed on the label affixed to the bottom of the XFINITY Wireless Gateway. If you have changed the network key from the original setting, enter that key instead. You can find out more about connecting to your Wireless Gateway here.
  10. Wait a few seconds while your Windows Phone connects, and you're done! Your device should now connect to your private home WiFi network when you are at home and the XFINITY WiFi network when you are connecting away from home.

Android (4.0 and greater)

To get the best XFINITY WiFi experience, download the XFINITY WiFi app. Or if you do not want to download the app and are connection to XFINITY WiFi for the first time, follow our Online Guide for Android.

If you previously connected to XFINITY WiFi and your private home WiFi network, the connection behavior will depend on the order in which you connected to these networks. Most Android phones attempt to connect to the most recently connected network that is available.

On Android 4.3 and above you can turn on auto network switch option to ensure you always have a good connection by following the below mentioned steps:

  1. Go to your phone’s Settings.
  2. Go to the Wi-Fi sub-setting, usually grouped under “Network connections” or a similar section.
  3. Tap/press your phone’s Menu button to display more options, and then tap Advanced.
  4. Check Avoid Poor Connections. Confirm choice if asked. And you’r edone!

If your Android phone has not connected to your private home WiFi network, follow the steps below to configure your device to use your private home WiFi network.

Reconnect to your private home WiFi network

  1. Find your private home WiFi network in the list of available networks and then click on Connect.
  2. You will need to enter the Network Key that is printed on the label affixed to the bottom of the XFINITY Wireless Gateway. If you have changed the network key from the original setting, enter that key instead. You can find out more about connecting to your Wireless Gateway here.
  3. Wait a few seconds while your Android device connects, and you’re done! Note you might have to repeat these steps every time you want your phone to connect to your private home WiFi network when you are at home.

iPad®

If you have previously connected to XFINITY WiFi and your private home WiFi network, the connection behavior will depend on the iPad version of your device.

If you have an iPad 3 or later, it will automatically connect to your private home WiFi network at home and XFINITY WiFi when you are visiting a friend or traveling around town.

If your device is an iPad 2 or older, it will connect to the most recently connected network, if that network is available. If your device has not connected to your private home WiFi network by default, follow the steps below to connect to your private home WiFi network.

Reconnect to your private home WiFi network

  1. Find your private home WiFi network in the list of available networks and tap it to connect.
  2. You will need to enter the Network Key that is printed on the label affixed to the bottom of the XFINITY Wireless Gateway. If you have changed the network key from the original setting, enter that key instead. You can find out more about connecting to your Wireless Gateway here.
  3. Wait a few seconds while your iPad connects, and you’re done! Note you might have to repeat these steps every time you want your iPad to connect to your private home WiFi network when you are at home.

Android (Tablet)

To get the best XFINITY WiFi experience, download the XFINITY WiFi app. Or if you do not want to download the app and are connection to XFINITY WiFi for the first time, follow our Online Guide for Android.

If you previously connected to XFINITY WiFi and your private home WiFi network, the connection behavior will depend on the order in which you connected to these networks. Most Android phones attempt to connect to the most recently connected network that is available.
