XFINITY WiFi FAQs

With millions of hotspots nationwide, it’s easier than ever to stay connected at all your favorite places.

General FAQ

XFINITY WiFi is a network of hotspots that allows you to connect to the Internet at the fastest WiFi speeds around town all while saving on your wireless data plan.

When in range of a hotspot, look for the “xfinitywifi” SSID (network name) in the list of available networks on your device.

There are two easy ways to find a WiFi hotspot:

  1. Check the hotspot location map at wifi.xfinity.com.
  2. Download the XFINITY WiFi app.
In select areas, you may also see the secure “XFINITY” SSID on your list of available networks. You cannot connect directly to this SSID, but you can get access by installing a security profile on your device.

To connect automatically at XFINITY WiFi hotspots and get the best WiFi experience, install a security profile to your device.

To sign in manually when you are at a hotspot:

  1. Enable WiFi access on your WiFi-enabled device.
  2. Find and select the XFINITY WiFi network (network name: “xfinitywifi”) and launch your browser. You will be redirected to the XFINTY WiFi sign in page. If the page doesn’t automatically redirect, type a different address in your web browser – such as www.xfinity.com – to be redirected to the XFINITY WiFi sign in page.

You may also see the secure “XFINITY” SSID on your list of available networks. You cannot connect directly to this SSID, but you can get access by installing the security profile on your device.
  3. Sign in using your XFINITY username and password and start browsing, streaming and more.

A great feature of XFINITY WiFi is automatic sign in. After the first time you’ve signed in, your device will automatically connect to XFINITY WiFi hotspots in the future. Click here for detailed instructions on how to connect.

Recovering your email or username and password is easy.

The XFINITY WiFi app is now exclusively available to XFINITY Internet customers, since it contains special security features only available for our customers. By signing in, the app will make sure you only connect to genuine XFINITY WiFi hotspots.

In order to make sure your device connects to a genuine XFINITY WiFi hotspot, a personalized security profile was installed on your WiFi-enabled device. This will ensure that your data is encrypted on secure XFINITY WiFi hotspots when available and works with connection management technology to prioritize secure hotspot connections.

On Android and Windows devices the security profile will be removed if you uninstall the app, and you will no longer be connected to secure XFINITY WiFi hotspots.

On iOS devices the security profile will remain. If you wish to uninstall the profile and therefore not take advantage of secure XFINITY WiFi hotspots, go to Settings → General → Profiles → XFINITY WiFi → Delete Profile.

Yes, once initially selected, your favorite network will be prioritized and connected upon login.

Because there are so many XFINITY WiFi hotspots, searches are performed using a 10-mile radius from the center of the search term. Try including a city name or ZIP code for better results. You can also use the GPS location symbol adjacent to the search feature in the Android and iOS apps to locate XFINITY WiFi hotspots near you.

You can modify your device’s location permissions by adjusting your general device settings. Follow these steps:

  • iOS 7:
Go to Settings → Privacy → Location Services → Set XFINITY WiFi to "On"
  • iOS 8:
Go to Settings → Privacy → Location Services → Set XFINITY WiFi to "On" → "Always"
  • Android:
Go to Settings → Location Services → Check the boxes for "Google location services" and "GPS Satellites"
  • Please note, if you have enabled location services and are still experiencing this issue, your device may not currently be able to identify your location (e.g., if you are on an iPod touch with no GPS functionality, and WiFi is disabled, the device will not be able to determine your location).

First, please make sure you have installed the latest version of the app.

If you are still having trouble, please contact our customer care team via email.

In order to improve your experience with the app, we collect some anonymous information about page views, search locations and general app usage. No personal or location information is stored. Understanding what customers do on our networks helps us ensure that the network is operating properly. Privacy of usage data is our priority (refer to our Privacy Statement here).

If you prefer that we don’t collect this information from you, it is possible to disable the feature within the Settings menu.

If you have installed an offline dataset (available on Android and iOS), i.e. a list of hotspots, you will be able to make searches without an Internet connection.

To install an offline dataset, simply visit the Settings menu and select the Manage Offline Datasets option when you do have an Internet connection. From here you can select which datasets you would like to install. Please note that any locations outside of the area that you have datasets installed for will not be searchable when your device is offline.

Yes, the Android app helps you save data and maximize performance by turning on WiFi when you are in range of your saved WiFi networks or XFINITY WiFi. To manage your connection preferences go to Settings; Manage Connections.

The app does not delete any of your existing WiFi networks. It will seamlessly connect your device to XFINITY WiFi and any of your saved networks.

    Home Hotspot FAQ

Your XFINITY Wireless Gateway broadcasts an additional “xfinitywifi” network signal, creating an extension of the XFINITY WiFi network right in your home. This service is completely separate from your secure, private home WiFi network and allows guests to sign in and connect without sharing your secure network password. Your Home Hotspot is included with your service at no additional charge.

From your guest’s device, simply select the WiFi network labeled “xfinitywifi” and open a Web browser to get started. If additional help is required, please visit our connection guides.

We recommend using your own private WiFi network when you are at home and using XFINITY WiFi when you are visiting a friend or traveling around town. Learn how to configure your device to connect to your private network at home. Also installing a security profile will help your device to prioritize your private WiFi network at home.

The Home Hotspot is designed to work on a separate network so that your home network remains entirely secure. By enabling guests to use XFINITY WiFi, you increase your network security because you won’t need to provide your private home WiFi network password to guests.

The broadband connection to your home will be unaffected by the new feature. For your in-home WiFi network, we have provisioned the XFINITY WiFi feature to support robust usage, and therefore anticipate minimal impact to the in-home WiFi network. WiFi uses shared wireless spectrum, and as with any shared medium, there can be some impact as more devices share the network.

Also, the usage and activities of visiting users are associated with the visitors’ accounts and therefore do not impact the homeowner.

We encourage all customers to keep this feature enabled as it allows more people to enjoy the benefits of XFINITY WiFi, but you will always have the ability to disable the XFINITY WiFi feature on your Wireless Gateway. Click here to manage your preferences.

Yes. The Home Hotspot feature will continue to be available even when your device is in bridge mode, conveniently allowing your guests to connect to XFINITY WiFi when visiting. If you wish to disable or enable the Home Hotspot feature, please visit My Account.

Some mobile devices and tablets automatically connect to your private home network by default, while others will connect to the last successfully connected network. Check your device’s WiFi settings to make sure you are connected to your private home network. You may need to select it manually if your device has connected to “xfinitywifi” in your own home. You can find additional information on how to prioritize your networks within our connection guides. If the problem persists you can always choose to “forget the network” from your WiFi devices WiFi settings menu. Also, installing the security profile will help your device to prioritize your private WiFi network at home.

Using a WiFi-enabled device, verify that the “xfinitywifi” signal is available and that the device is connected. Open a Web browser and you should be directed to the XFINITY WiFi sign-in page. Additional connection help is available here. If the issue persists, please call customer support at 1-800-XFINITY.

Up to five devices can connect to the “xfinitywifi” signal simultaneously.

We do not list residential customers’ addresses on the hotspot location map or in the XFINITY WiFi app. Small business locations are listed on the map as a feature of the Comcast Business WiFi service. Businesses can learn more about managing their Comcast Business WiFi Hotspot directory information here.

This new feature enhancement is not available on all XFINITY Wireless Gateways or supported with all XFINITY Internet products. Wireless routers purchased at retail outlets don’t support the XFINITY WiFi service.

    XFINITY WiFi On Demand FAQ

WiFi On Demand is similar to the previous Access Pass program with both a limited complimentary pass offer and a variety of pay-per-use passes available for extended access.

The first time you see the WiFi On Demand experience, you will need to create a new account. Your existing Access Pass account is no longer active.

Passes can be purchased via credit card or debit card by connecting to an XFINITY WiFi hotspot. Visit our Map for a list of hotspots, or simply look for “xfinitywifi” in your list of available networks. Passes cannot be purchased by calling customer service.

You will also need a WiFi-enabled device with a browser. On Android devices we recommend using a full browser such as Google Chrome or Firefox to complete your transaction. You may need to manually launch the full browser to navigate to the sign-in screen. Supported device types and OS are available in our Guides.

    1. Turn off WiFi on your device
    2. Wait 5 minutes and turn WiFi back on
    3. Reselect “xfinitywifi” from the list of available networks if your device does not automatically reconnect
    4. You should be able to browse the Internet successfully

Passes may be used at any of the millions of XFINITY WiFi hotspots. You can find a listing of XFINITY WiFi hotspots on our Map. Passes are valid only on hotspots with the network name “xfinitywifi”. You can find the network name by clicking on a hotspot on the map or in the list of results.

A pass is valid only on the device it is purchased on.

No. A pass is valid only on the device it is purchased on.

No, the pass is activated at time of purchase and expires based on the duration indicated. For example:

    • One hour pass – valid for 60 consecutive minutes from time of purchase
    • Two hour pass - valid for two consecutive hours from time of purchase
    • Day Pass - valid for 24 consecutive hours from time of purchase
    • Week Pass - valid for 7 consecutive days from time of purchase
    • 30 Day Pass - valid for 30 consecutive days from time of purchase

WiFi access passes rely on connectivity to nearby hotspots. Connectivity issues are typically due to not being close enough to a hotspot. In some cases, your device may see the hotspot but not be close enough to get a good connection. If that happens, you can try to change locations until you receive a strong signal.

Different devices and operating systems use different logic to determine which hotspots to connect to.  If you do not want your device to connect to XFINITY WiFi go into your WiFi settings and remove it from the saved networks (select “forget this network” or other similar option).

WiFi passes work best on iOS, Android, Windows, and OS X (Mac) devices with fully featured browsers  Some USB sticks and gaming consoles may not have full browsers.

You can change both your username and password by visiting your WiFi On Demand account.

24/7 telephone support is available from our customer service team. Call 1-866-489-0919.

You can also see your past pass purchases and manage auto-renew preferences by logging into your WiFi On Demand account.

If you have XFINITY Internet service of 25mbps or higher then XFINITY WiFi is included in your subscription. Simply sign in to your XFINITY account when prompted at a hotspot or download the XFINITY WiFi app to sign in automatically next time you’re at a hotspot.

Otherwise, you can use your existing XFINITY username and password to log in to XFINITY WiFi, but you will need to select an access pass to get connected.

To access your WiFi On Demand activity please go to your WiFi On Demand account.

Have an existing XFINITY account but don’t have an XFINITY login? Create one here.

You can choose to renew select passes automatically at time of purchase. You can modify your renewal preferences by logging into your WiFi On Demand account. Auto-renewal is only available for weekly and 30-day passes at this time.

You can get a copy of your WiFi On Demand receipts by logging into your WiFi On Demand account.

When you create a WiFi On Demand account we ask you to validate your email address by responding to a validation email we send you. An email address that is not validated within 72 hours is removed from an account. To add or edit an email address go to your WiFi On Demand account.

If you purchased a pass and are unable to use it due to connectivity issues you may request a refund for the time you were unable to use by calling 1-866-489-0919. Note, the refund amount takes into account the price of shorter duration passes that could have been purchased instead. For example, if you buy a week pass and are only able to use 2 days, your refund would be the price you paid less the cost of 2 day passes.

Data usage is only available for the previous 90 days.
