What is XFINITY® WiFi?

XFINITY WiFi is a network of hotspots that allows you to connect at the fastest WiFi speeds around town while conserving usage on your cellular data plan.

How do I find a hotspot?

When in range of a hotspot, it can be found within the list of available networks on your device. XFINITY WiFi hotspots are identified by two SSIDs (network names) – “xfinitywifi” or “CableWiFi.”

There are two easy ways to find a WiFi hotspot:

  1. Check the hotspot location map at wifi.xfinity.com.
  2. Download the XFINITY WiFi app.

Do you have to be an XFINITY customer to access XFINITY WiFi?

XFINITY Internet and Comcast Business Internet customers with a qualifying tier of service* can enjoy XFINITY WiFi access at no additional cost.

If you are a new subscriber, you can begin using XFINITY WiFi right away, even before your XFINITY Internet service has been installed at home.

If you’re not yet an XFINITY Internet customer, you can access WiFi service two ways:

  1. Limited Free Trial: At select XFINITY WiFi hotspot locations, visitors are allowed two 60-minute complimentary sessions per month. There is 24-hour wait period between sessions.
  2. XFINITY WiFi Access Pass: Use XFINITY WiFi for an hour, a day or a week, by purchasing an XFINITY WiFi Access Pass. Only available in select hotspot locations.

*Note: XFINITY Internet requires Performance tier and above; Comcast Business Internet requires Business Starter and above.

How do I access XFINITY WiFi?

A great feature of XFINITY WiFi is the automated sign-in. After the first time you’ve signed in, your device will automatically connect to XFINITY WiFi hotspots in the future. *

  1. Enable WiFi access on your wireless or WiFi-enabled device.
  2. Find and select the XFINITY WiFi network (network name: “xfinitywifi”) and launch your browser. You will be redirected to the XFINTY WiFi sign-in page. If the page doesn’t automatically redirect, type a different address in your web browser – such as www.xfinity.com – to be redirected to the XFINITY WiFi sign-in page.
  3. Sign in using your Comcast Email or username and password and start browsing, streaming and more.

*Only applicable to qualifying XFINITY Internet customers.

Comcast Business Internet customers:

How do I connect if I am not a customer?

When you initially connect to “xfinitywifi,” a sign-in page will appear. If a sign-in page does not appear automatically, open your browser and navigate to a website such as www.xfinity.com. The sign-in page will now appear.

  1. Click the Get Started link in the “Not an XFINITY Internet Customer?” section. (Please note that not all locations offer guest access.)
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts.

Is XFINITY WiFi secure?

Comcast is committed to making your WiFi experience as fast, fun and safe as possible. Whenever you sign in, we help protect your privacy and the safety of your Comcast Email or username and password by providing 128-bit encryption on the sign-in page. This is the same standard used by thousands of online banking and financial services sites around the world to protect your critical transactions.

However, for the most secure online experience possible, be safe and smart.

  • Use a firewall and an anti-virus program such as Constant Guard® comprehensive online protection included with your XFINITY Internet service for no extra cost.
  • Turn off file sharing when using your computer or handheld on a network, at home or on the road.
  • Keep your anti-virus programs up-to-date and perform regular system scans to detect any problems early.

Why am I seeing the “You’re on XFINITY WiFi” notification?

This notification lets you know your device is successfully connected to the XFINITY WiFi network. By connecting to XFINITY WiFi, you are able to conserve usage on your wireless data plans and enjoy the fastest hotspots in the nation. As a customer, once you've connected to an XFINITY WiFi hotspot for the first time, many WiFi enabled devices will automatically re-connect to known hotspots. If your device is registered to automatically sign-in to XFINITY WiFi, this notification reminds you that you are connected to a network you know and trust.

What is CableWiFi and is it related to XFINITY WiFi?

CableWiFi is an extension of the XFINITY WiFi service offered by Comcast, giving you access to even more hotspots on the go as you travel around the country.

When you are in a CableWiFi hotspot location (view coverage on wifi.xfinity.com), XFINITY Internet customers can access the hotspot at no additional charge.

  • Select the “CableWiFi” network name from the list of available wireless network connections.
  • Open your browser and select “XFINITY” when prompted to select your Internet Service Provider.
  • If your device was previously registered for Automatic Sign-In, you will automatically connect. Otherwise, please enter your Comcast Email or username and password and accept the Terms of Service.

What should I do if I still can’t connect to XFINITY WiFi?

Check to make sure you are in range of an XFINITY WiFi hotspot. If “xfinitywifi” is not in the list of available networks, then there is likely not a hotspot in your immediate location.

If the “xfinitywifi” network name is in the available network list and you still can't connect, check your WiFi-enabled device to see how many signal bars are present. If there are only one or two bars, you may need to move closer to the center of the signal – moving closer to the center of the hotspot will increase the quality of the connection.

If you still cannot get online and your Comcast Email or username and password are correct, it is possible that we are having a service issue. Please contact our Customer Support Center at 1-800-XFINITY and select the High Speed Internet service option.

I’m attached to the xfinitywifi SSID, so why can’t I reach the XFINITY WiFi sign in page?

On certain devices the Web browser may serve a default start page, such as google.com, from the cache on your device instead of from the Web. Please try refreshing your browser page, or try going to a new website, and you should get redirected to the XFINITY WiFi Sign In page.

If the problem persists please check your device’s DNS settings are set to obtain the DNS server address automatically (typically found where your network or WiFi connections are located).

How do I manage my devices registered for XFINITY WiFi access?

Devices can be registered by the primary account holder. Four devices are eligible to be registered for XFINITY WiFi access at one time. This may vary based on your tier of service. The primary account holder can manage devices by selecting the My Services tab, selecting XFINITY Internet within My Account or by clicking here. If the maximum device limit has been reached, the primary account holders may be asked to remove devices from their account to allow additional devices XFINITY WiFi access.

Do I need the app to connect to XFINITY WiFi?

No, you do not need the app to connect, but our app will help you find hotspots when you are on the go.

Where can I download the XFINITY WiFi app and which devices are supported?

You can download the iOS app from iTunes here or download the Android app from Google Play here.

For iOS (must be at least version 5.1), the following devices are supported:

  • iPhone: 3GS and above
  • iPad: Any version
  • iPod Touch: 3rd generation and above

For Android, any device running Android 2.2 or above.

I know XFINITY WiFi is available in my area, but when I search by state no results are found. Why?

Because there are so many XFINITY WiFi hotspots, searches are performed using a 10-mile radius from the center of the search term. Try including a city name or ZIP code for better results. You can also use the "Near Me" feature in the app to locate XFINITY WiFi hotspots near you.

Can I make my search more precise or filter results?

Yes, as long as you have less than 5,000 results loaded, you are able to refine your results by selecting the refine button icon found to the right of the top bar. You can then refine your search by site type, category or by entering a keyword.

The "Near Me" search button isn't working, or I see the message "Geo-location services are not available." How do I resolve this?

You can modify your device’s location permissions by adjusting your general device settings. Follow these steps:

  • iOS 5:
Go to Settings → Location Services → Set XFINITY WiFi to "On"
  • iOS 6 & 7:
Go to Settings → Privacy →Location Services → Set XFINITY WiFi to "On"
  • iOS 8:
Go to Settings → Privacy →Location Services → Set XFINITY WiFi to "Always"
  • Android:
Go to Settings → Location Services → Check the boxes for "Google location services" and "GPS Satellites"

Please note, if you have enabled location services and are still experiencing this issue, your device may not currently be able to identify your location (e.g., if you are on an iPod touch with no GPS functionality, and WiFi is disabled, the device will not be able to determine your location).

I'm having a problem with the XFINITY WiFi app; who should I contact for further support?

If you are still having trouble, please contact our customer care team via chat.

Home Hotspot

What is the XFINITY WiFi Home Hotspot feature?

Your XFINITY Wireless Gateway broadcasts an additional “xfinitywifi” network signal, creating an extension of the XFINITY WiFi network right in your home. This service is completely separate from your secure, private home WiFi network and allows guests to sign in and connect without sharing your secure network password. Your Home Hotspot is included with your service at no additional charge.

To learn more, watch our video tutorial.

How do guests connect to XFINITY WiFi in my home?

From their device, simply select the WiFi network labeled “xfinitywifi” and open a Web browser to get started. If additional help is required, please visit our connection guides.

Should I use my private WiFi network or the XFINITY WiFi Home Hotspot when I am at home?

We recommend using your own private WiFi network when you are at home and using XFINITY WiFi when you are visiting a friend or traveling around town. Learn how to configure your device to connect to your private network at home.

Does the new hotspot impact my network security?

The Home Hotspot is designed to work on a separate network so that your home network remains entirely secure. By enabling guests to use XFINITY WiFi, you increase your network security because you won’tneed to provide your private home WiFi network password to guests.

Does the new Home Hotspot impact my Internet speeds or data usage?

The broadband connection to your home will be unaffected by the new feature. For your in-home WiFi network, we have provisioned the XFINITY WiFi feature to support robust usage, and therefore anticipate minimal impact to the in-home WiFi network. As with any shared medium, there can be some impact as more devices share the network.

For data usage, the activities of visiting users are associated with the visitor'saccounts and therefore do not impact the homeowner.

How do I disable/enable the Home Hotspot feature?

We encourage all subscribers to keep this feature enabled as it allows more people to enjoy the benefits of XFINITY WiFi, but you will always have the ability to disable the XFINITY WiFi feature on your Wireless Gateway. Will the Home Hotspot feature work when my Wireless Gateway is in bridge mode?

If you wish to disable/enable the Home Hotspot feature, please visit My Account at http://my.xfinity.com/ , click on Users & Preferences and then select Manage XFINITY WiFi or call 1-800-XFINITY.

My WiFi-enabled devices are connecting to the “xfinitywifi” signal when I am home –how do I return my default network to my private home network?

Some mobile devices and tablets automatically connect to your private home network by default, while others will connect to the last successfully connected network. Check your device’s WiFi settings to make sure you are connected to your private home network. You may need to select it manually if your device has connected to “xfinitywifi” in your own home. You can find additional information on how to prioritize your networks within our Connection Guides. If the problem persists you can always choose to “forget the network”from your WiFi devices WiFi settings menu.
